Lips at Every Age: Assess, Adapt, and Execute

This featured workshop-style course is designed to refine your clinical approach to lip tattooing. Lip procedures are among the most requested yet technically demanding in permanent makeup. This course focuses on one critical factor often overlooked—assessment before application.

Artists will learn how to evaluate and treat lips across different stages of aging, understanding that a one-size-fits-all technique does not deliver consistent, high-quality healed results. By shifting from technique-driven work to assessment-based decision-making, participants will gain the ability to create more precise, age-appropriate outcomes

Key Topics Covered

  • Lip anatomy across age groups, including changes in vermillion border, cupid’s bow, and tissue thickness

  • A structured pre-treatment assessment framework for evaluating lip symmetry, texture, existing pigment, and skin condition

  • Technique selection based on lip profile, including liner, diffused wash, and restructuring approaches

  • Color theory for aging skin and how pigment behaves differently in mature tissue

  • Managing client expectations with clear, realistic communication

  • Common mistakes by age group and how to avoid them

These topics are designed to build a deeper understanding of how lips change over time and how to adapt your approach accordingly.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will understand how to:

  • Identify anatomical and structural differences in lips across various age groups

  • Apply a repeatable pre-treatment assessment process for every client

  • Select appropriate techniques based on individual lip characteristics

  • Adapt pigment selection and mixing strategies for aging skin

  • Communicate realistic expectations with confidence and professionalism

  • Recognize and correct common age-related technical errors

Participants will leave with a structured decision-making framework that can be applied immediately in practice.

HANDS-ON COMPONENT

This course includes a guided hands-on workshop designed to reinforce learning through practice.

Participants practice on fake skin using three needle configurations, each corresponding to a distinct lip profile and age group.

  • Round 1 — Younger Lip: Single needle or 3RL. Focus on clean liner definition and precise placement.

  • Round 2 — Mid-Life Lip: 5RL or soft magnum. Focus on diffused wash technique and soft blending.

  • Round 3 — Mature Lip: 7 mag or combination pass. Focus on rebuilding structure, feathering compromised borders, and adjusting depth for thinner tissue.

  • Each round is followed by instructor review, including healed result analysis and identification of common errors for that lip type.

Participants will leave with a practical reference guide covering assessment protocols, needle selection, and color strategies for aging lips.

Note: This workshop does not constitute formal training or certification for fundamentals to perform Lip procedures. For more information on upcoming courses, please visit www.saulerinstitute.com

Presented By: Ciara Amir, LE, CMM, CMMT

Ciara Amir,

Ciara Amir is the founder of Illume and Illume Institute, an inclusive medical micropigmentation practice and training facility based in Oklahoma City. With over a decade in the beauty industry, she has built a reputation for producing soft, refined results that heal beautifully across all skin tones not just a select few.

Her work sits at the intersection of artistry and science, with a focus on pigment behavior, skin physiology, and long-term outcomes. Ciara is known for challenging the industry’s tendency to center lighter skin tones in education, instead teaching artists how to deliver elevated, consistent results across the full spectrum of global complexions.

As an educator, she leads an intensive 300-hour fundamental training program where she mentors artists to move beyond trend-based technique and into true clinical understanding. Her approach is rooted in precision, intention, and the belief that good permanent makeup should look just as beautiful healed as it does fresh.

Through her work, Ciara is committed to raising the standard of PMU by making inclusive, high-level education the expectation not the exception.

BROWS FOR GLOBAL COMPLEXIONS: RESULTS THAT HOLD ACROSS ALL FITZPATRICK TYPES

This advanced workshop is designed to refine how artists approach brow tattooing by addressing one of the industry’s biggest gaps working confidently and correctly across all skin tones.

Too often, artists are taught technique without being taught how skin actually behaves. The result is inconsistent healing, ashy outcomes, and work that only looks good on a narrow range of clients.

This workshop shifts the focus from copying technique to understanding skin. Participants will learn how to assess, adapt, and execute based on what is in front of them, not what worked on the last client. The goal is simple consistent, elevated healed results regardless of Fitzpatrick type.

Key Topics Covered

  • Why the Fitzpatrick scale alone is not enough and how to use it correctly

  • How skin density, oil production, and melanin levels impact pigment retention

  • Undertone identification without guessing and why it matters

  • Pigment selection and modification to avoid ash, gray, and oversaturation

  • Depth, pressure, and stretch techniques across different skin types

  • How trauma and inflammation present differently in deeper skin tones

  • Building a consultation process that actually supports better results

  • The most common mistakes artists make on melanin-rich skin and how to fix them

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will understand how to:

  • Confidently assess skin tone, undertone, and overall skin behavior

  • Choose pigments that heal true not just look good fresh

  • Adjust technique based on skin structure instead of habit

  • Predict how work will heal across different Fitzpatrick types

  • Avoid common color and saturation mistakes

  • Communicate with clients in a way that builds trust and clarity

Participants will leave with a framework that elevates both their work and their standards.

HANDS-ON COMPONENT

Note: This workshop does not constitute formal training or certification for fundamentals to perform eyebrowsprocedures.

This course includes a guided hands-on workshop focused on real application across varying skin types.

Participants will work through three scenarios designed to mirror real client diversity:

  • Round 1 — Fitzpatrick I–II

Focus on controlled saturation, lighter implantation, and avoiding overworking delicate skin

  • Round 2 — Fitzpatrick III–IV

Focus on balance of depth, undertone management, and clean, even saturation

  • Round 3 — Fitzpatrick V–VI

Focus on depth precision, intentional stretch, and pigment modification to ensure rich, true healed results without ashiness

  • Each session includes instructor feedback, healed result analysis, and correction strategies.

Participants will leave with a clear, practical approach to creating brows that heal beautifully across every complexion they serve.

Discover a fresh perspective on permanent makeup color correction with Francesca’s ReTone™ Method.

In this session, she will explore why healed brows can shift in tone over time and why successful corrections require more than generic color rules. Through her thoughtful, education driven approach, Francesca will introduce key concepts behind pigment behavior, undertones, and the importance of reading healed work with more clarity and intention. This lecture is designed to help artists think beyond guesswork, approach corrections more strategically, and better understand the visual changes that happen in the skin over time. If you’ve ever struggled with how to assess old pigment or choose the right corrective direction, this session will offer valuable insight and a more elevated way of thinking about correction work.

Achieving predictable healed-in results in PMU is not a matter of luck: it’s the result of informed, strategic decision-making.

In this masterclass, you’ll learn how to move beyond technique-driven work and begin thinking critically about the skin-canvas in front of you. By understanding how factors such as skin-identifying clues, melanin response, external influencers, and individual healing responses to injury shape your outcomes, you’ll gain the clarity needed to create intentional, customized design protocols for every client you meet with.

This session introduces a structured approach that will help you reduce guesswork, minimize trauma, and produce more consistent, refined results, so that your PMU brow work heals with integrity and aligns with your intended outcome.
