Guidelines for Microblading/Microstroking Tools
As recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), microblading is atechnique for the application of permanent cosmetic eyebrow tattooing.In compliance of OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard prohibiting the “bending, recapping, or removal of a contaminated needle of other contaminated sharp” as defined in [29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(vii)(A)], the follow apply:
1. All manual tools/devices used for microblading must be fully disposable.
Once a needle grouping is affixed to a handle, it cannot be removed from the handle during or after use. The entire unit (handle and needle grouping) must be immediatelydiscarded into a sharps container.
2. All needle groupings or pre-assembled needles groups affixed to handles must besterile before use. Manufacturers and/or distributors must provide verification of
sterilization. Verification should include the lot number, expiration date, and method of sterilization.
Important Information to Be Aware of:
Suppliers. The marketplace is flooded with microblading supplies. The consumer shouldwork with suppliers that can positively confirm sterility.
Packaging. Tools should be individually packaged in medical paper sealed packaging appropriate for the sterilization method. Porous, medical paper provides breathability and a sterile barrier to make sterilization possible. A color changing process indicator should be present on the package. The packaging should only display one sterilization technique.
Needle Material. Medical grade, surgical stainless steel (also known as 316L grade)should be used for needles. The manufacturer/distributor should be able to provide youwith certification of the needle material.
Safe Solder Material. As part of the manufacturing process, needles are soldered
together into various configurations. The manufacturer or distributor should be able to provide third party verification that the solder material is free of lead or other harmful metals.
These guidelines apply to all members who manufacture, sell, train with, or otherwise usemicroblading (microstroking) tools.
