PC Buzz - December 2022

PC Buzz December 2022

A new year is only days away!  The years and days pass faster than I pass on tattooing cheek blush!  2023 is just around the corner, and that means it’s a good time to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’d like to go.  We have spent almost three years caught in a perpetual whirlwind of industry hardships and evolvement.  Within the permanent cosmetics community, the passage of time, inevitably, reveals those who are steady anchors and those who detach.  As we have navigated these challenging times in our industry, what factors contribute to an artist being able to continue anchoring their business versus an artist who is forced to detach?

My belief, and ultimately, my experience, proves that having a professional community, providing a social network and relationships necessary to survive and even thrive, is positively essential to succeed in our industry today.  The SPCP is a fluke to my anchor.  The purpose of an anchor’s flukes (pointed arms extending outward and upward at the end of the anchor shaft) is to allow the anchor to bury itself into the seabed, establishing the holding power needed to provide stability and withstand movement.  Anchors are known to symbolize safety, security, hope, confidence, new journeys, and consistent strength, among others.  Now, let’s compare the anchor and its flukes to a community dedicated to helping YOU!  Without the flukes establishing stability, an anchor isn’t quite as secure as it could be.  The same correlation can be applied to individuals who lack involvement in a professional community that can provide hope and powerful stability. Without it, you too, may find yourself wavering without consistency and security.

As 2023 fast approaches, I implore all members to navigate our website and learn the many membership benefits provided by the SPCP.  The educational opportunities are endless, and many are even FREE!  The SPCP yearly convention is packed with solid presenters and information, not to mention the capability of networking amongst artists!  Priceless! The SPCP Quarterly is a wealth of knowledge brought to you via email with invaluable industry information, quick tips, and insider information!  Did you know that the SPCP has a Subject Matter Expert (SME) program that provides answers and guidance to technician questions and issues?  There are many benefits to being a member of the SPCP, and we’d love to see our members use them to their full advantage.

Don’t forget that clients seek professionals who are members of professional organizations, so be sure to represent your membership and commitment to service excellence and maintaining high ethical standards by displaying the SPCP logo cling on your storefront or in your workspace.  It’s a great visual that can make for a great talking point as well!

Not only can you display the SPCP logo, but you can also display the CPCP logo if you’re certified!  Becoming CPCP certified is an excellent way to set yourself apart from other artists in your area.
