PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALING PATHWAYS

Which SPCP Certification
Is Right for You?

The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals offers three distinct board certifications tailored to your clinical scope and artistic focus. Whether you specialize in permanent cosmetics, paramedical tattooing, or scalp micropigmentation, our standardized credentials validate your expertise, elevate patient safety, and establish your standing at the pinnacle of the profession.

The certification that is right for you will depend on the services you provide and the area of your practice you would like your certification to represent. If you work across several areas, you may choose one primary certification or earn multiple SPCP certifications to demonstrate your expertise across different specialties.

CREDENTIAL PORTFOLIO

Professional Pathways

Select the specialized credential aligned with your clinical scope, educational leadership, or micropigmentation discipline.

CPCP

Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional

The CPCP is SPCP's original and most comprehensive certification. It is designed for professionals working within the broader permanent cosmetics and cosmetic tattoo industry.

IDEAL FOR:

  • Provide permanent cosmetic services such as brows, eyeliner, or lips

  • Work across multiple areas of permanent cosmetics or cosmetic tattooing

  • Offer a combination of PMU and paramedical tattooing

  • Provide a broad range of services and want one certification to represent their overall professional practice

  • Offer PMU, paramedical tattooing, and/or scalp micropigmentation as part of a wider practice

If you offer services across several different areas, including PMU, paramedical tattooing, and SMP, the CPCP is generally the best certification to start with.

CPTP

Certified Paramedical Tattoo professional

The CPTP is specifically focused on paramedical tattooing and is designed for professionals who want their certification to reflect expertise within this specialized area.

IDEAL FOR:

  • Work primarily or exclusively in paramedical tattooing

  • Provide services such as areola restoration or other restorative tattoo procedures

  • Offer both PMU and paramedical tattooing but would like a certification specifically recognizing their paramedical practice

  • Want to demonstrate additional professional knowledge within the paramedical tattoo field.

Artists who already hold the CPCP may also choose to earn the CPTP to demonstrate additional specialization in paramedical tattooing.

CSMP

Certified Scalp Micropigmentation Professional

The CSMP is specifically designed for professionals providing scalp micropigmentation services and recognizes knowledge within this specialized area of practice.

IDEAL FOR:

  • Work primarily or exclusively as an SMP artist

  • Provide scalp micropigmentation alongside other permanent cosmetic services

  • Want a certification specifically recognizing their SMP knowledge and practice

  • Already hold another SPCP certification and want to demonstrate additional specialization in scalp micropigmentation

Artists who already hold the CPCP may also choose to earn the CSMP to demonstrate additional specialization in SMP.

CROSS-DISCIPLINARY EXCELLENCE

You Can Hold More Than One SPCP Certification

Many technicians hold dual or triple SPCP credentials to reflect comprehensive achievement across distinct clinical domains. Whether expanding from permanent cosmetics (CPCP) into restorative paramedical tattooing (CPTP) or specialized scalp micropigmentation (CSMP), each certification operates as an independent, board-certified standard of excellence.

If you provide multiple services, you may choose to take two or all three certification exams and maintain multiple SPCP certifications. For example, an artist who provides permanent cosmetics, paramedical tattooing, and scalp micropigmentation may choose the CPCP as their primary overall certification while also earning the CPTP and CSMP to demonstrate additional expertise within those specialized areas.

Holding multiple certifications allows professionals to demonstrate their commitment to education and professional standards across each area of their practice.
